The CUA Cardinal - Official Newsletter of the Catholic University of America Alumni Association
Volume III, Issue 12
December 2008

This Saturday, the CUA football team (8-1) will host the Bridgewater Eagles in their final home game of the year. CUA will be playing for the 2008 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA playoffs. The last conference championship for football was in 1999 when Tom Clark led the Cardinals to a 9-2 record, and so the entire Catholic University community will be on-hand wearing Cardinal red to cheer the Cardinals to victory. The CUA Alumni Association will be throwing a pre-game gathering to help our alumni take part in the fun. For complete details, click here.

On Saturday, Dec. 13, the CUA Alumni Association will join once again with Wreaths Across America to lay Christmas wreaths on the graves of fallen U.S. soldiers interred at Arlington National Cemetery.

This month's alumni postcard comes to us all the way from "The Big Island" across the Pacific Ocean! Though they never met while attending CUA, Tricia Oftana, B.A. 2001, and Brian Keany, B.A. 2004, became fast friends upon learning of their shared alma mater while living in Honolulu, Hawaii. Here they are on top of Mauna Kea in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Have you reconnected with fellow CUA alums in a far-out locale or a neighborhood near you? Let us know. Send your name, degree year, current address, and a photo of you and your CUA friends to cua-alumni@cua.edu.

On Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 6 p.m., join your fellow CUA alumni and friends in the Boston area at the Commander's Mansion at the Watertown Arsenal (Watertown, Mass.) as we kick off the holidays in high style!

This annual tradition will feature Christmas carols, holiday cocktails, and sumptuous appetizers in this beautifully decorated historic home. For directions or to learn more about this venue, click here.

There is no charge for this event, but reservations are required. To R.s.v.p. for this event, click here.

As a student at CUA, Matt Baehr, B.A. 1999, made a name for himself as one of the school's most decorated soccer stars. A four-year starter on the men’s varsity team, Baehr was awarded numerous honors including Rookie of the Year, MVP and Conference All-Academic Team.

With such a long and impressive soccer career to his credit, it should come as no surprise that this alum decided to make a full-time profession out of his passion. To learn how he did just that,
