Catholic University President Appoints New Provost

Very Rev. David M. O’Connell, C.M., president of The Catholic University of America, has announced the appointment of James Brennan, Ph.D., Towson University provost, as the next provost and chief academic officer of The Catholic University of America, effective June 18, 2007.

Due to inclement weather on February 15, this month's GOLD gathering at Hawk 'N' Dove was cancelled.

To make it up to you, we're buying the first round of drinks at next month's GOLD gathering on March 15 at The Irish Times (Red Line, Union Station). The Office of Alumni Relations would like to extend a huge "thank you" to the 400 alums, families and friends who attended the exclusive CUA screening of Disney's Bridge to Terabithia, held at the AFI Silver Theatre in Silver Spring, Md. on February 1. An additional thanks to the film's screenwriter David Paterson, B.A. '89, who offered his heartfelt insight and experiences, making this event a tremendous success.

Fluent in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, Lucília Harrington currently serves as the sole librarian within the Cultural and Public Affairs Office at the Brazilian Embassy. In addition to serving as a contact for information about Brazil, Lucília classifies and catalogs books for the embassy. Prior to her current position, she was employed as head of reference within the Columbus Memorial Library at the Organization of American States, an international organization.

Boston Alumni Chapter: CUA Alumni Service Day

On Sunday, February 25, from 2 to 5 p.m., join your classmates and give back to the city! We will be meeting at St. James Church (1991 Massachusetts Avenue) outside of Boston in nearby Cambridge, Massachusetts, and we will be voluteering with the non-profit agency Bread & Jams, Inc. to make meals for the homeless.

Come explore the teachings of the Catholic tradition found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the new United States Catechism for Adults with fellow alumnus Rev. Frank Donio, S.A.C. On Saturday, February 17, the CUA alumni office invites you to the last of this season's Game Break Gatherings as CUA Basketball hosts Mary Washington. Call your friends and bring the kids to the DuFour Center for a bird's eye view of the game!

Alumni admission for both the men's and women's games is $5 and can be purchased on game day. Alumni and friends are invited to gather immediately following the end of the 2 p.m. women's game for complimentary snacks and cold drinks before watching the men's game at 4 p.m.

CUA Remembers Monsignor Mohan

On January 26, 2007, The Catholic University of America mourned the passing of one of the most prominent and beloved members of the university community, Monsignor Robert Paul Mohan. He was 86 years old.
